Sometime early last year, I heard a set by Mo'Funk recorded at Cafe Mambo in Ibiza. Over the course of 2.5 hours, Mo'Funk went from old school R&B to house...pushing the tempo until he handed the decks off to Swedish House Mafia. I was astounded by what he did. More than that, I was inspired. All of those different genres. Artfully programmed and mixed.
Soon after, I put together the first Northside Session. The idea was to put together a three hour arc of music that would be inclusive - that friends from all of my circles could get behind. I wanted to make it both familiar and different at the same time. And, most importantly, I wanted to keep the energy building and flowing gracefully. I wasn't trying to break all hip and underground. Or even very current. I was trying to make everyone have fun.
