From the Journal of dentistry in April 2006 Dr. Lou Manns and others and they were from Heidelberg they published a study randomized clinical trial on proximal contacts of posterior composites. Now granted Europe is been doing posterior composites for longer than the US in general but they took the Tofflemire or what's called a circumferential band and compared the final restoration. To that with sectional matrices and I hear the conclusion class to posterior restorations place with composite using a sectional matrix and separation rings resulted in a stronger proximal contact. Than one of a Tofflemire matrix system was used so now you have the option of a contoured matrix yet and part of this is the contoured matrix gives you a little more bulk at the marginal Ridge. For strength so is less likely to chip or to fracture so I was glad to see a study because it's kind of one of those things probably not too many people.
