Here's to empty ones!
a) humuhumunukunukuapua'a (also spelled humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa) is one of the longest nouns known to man - literally, "a fish that grunts like a pig".
b) Hawaiian (along with many other modern languages) makes frequent use of toneless vowels, marking a certain void, an empty space that once was filled - be it 'glottal stop', 'schwa' or 'sukun'. It's a moment to take a break, a proper breath,to respect a sound that you no longer know how to make.
From now on, let's focus on popular music as this kind of statement. Full of remarkable voids, ensnared by them. It's a kind of enslavement, but also the one which presents a possibilty to escape in one of the most orotund and turgid ways possible.
Piotr Kurek is guiding us away from pop's well of misery. He's a driving force behind Piętnastka project - one of the few avant-guarde projects that expand serious musical ideas and complex thoughts with the usage of vocabulary known to five-year old.
