BSOTS ON BONDFIRE: Rhythms, Riots, and Revolution (April 28, 2017)

About the show

Playing tracks by

Nuage, The Brother's Rap, K-9 Posse, Gensu Dean, Lord Echo and more.

Chart positions

This upload was 95th in the #rock chart and 96th in the #hip-hop/rap chart.

This show features some Prince related material alongside new music from Lord Echo, Evidence, Machinedrum, Duct Tape, Nuage, and Scarper. Cuts from Ben Harper and Proper Grounds are spun in light of the 25th anniversary of the Los Angeles uprising. In addition, some K-9 Posse in memory of Charlie Murphy, Digable Planets, perhaps the cutest version of a Gil Scott-Heron classic ever recorded, and more. If I sound some hype than usual, it was because of a party that started to gather in the studio, the numbers increasing with every talk break. It was a fun night. :-]

Radio BSOTS broadcasts live on alternating Fridays 8:30-10:00 p.m. EST on Bondfire Radio.

Thanks much for the comments, brother! Growing up with NYC radio in the late '70s/early '80s, I had plenty of on-air personalities to study concerning the voice as well as the selection. As for K9 Posse, I don't think Charlie was a member of the group so much as an influential presence. Just the idea that he wrote two songs on that album is news to me. That along with the executive producer album credit. He had his hands in so much more than most folk realize.

Always a great show man! Was digging that cover of the Gil Scott tune, also a tune about midway had a killer drum break, snr had great reverb! When Guru said it's mostly the voice he meant voices like yours 👊. Peace man!
