Playing tracks by
Della Reese, Esther Phillips, Patti Drew, Marsha Hunt, Dorothy Morrison and more.
Originally a sampler/promotional CD for a central London night following Gay Pride 2008 (when it was, of course, called "What would Amy do?"), I rediscovered a copy while browsing my collection. I played it, and it reminded me of why I started to play music (two of tracks appeared in my first early attempts to play to a crowd), why I continued (the joy of recognition of "Tainted Love") and also, somehow, my disenfranchisement since (how could anyone want "Sumfink nu" when there is something old which is far superior?). Musical snobbery aside, either take some red wine and commiserate, or a bacardi and coke and celebrate the joy of female soul and funk singers.
