While June 12 was a sad day for the civil rights activists in the USA June 19 is a memorable date in "The Land Of The Free". Slavery was officially abolished in 1862, on 19 June 1865 slaves in Galveston, Texas were informed that they were free citizens and the U.S. Senate approved, after long filibustering, the Civil Richts Act of 1964.
On June 19, was bluegrass icon Lester Flatt (° 1914) born, 22 years later it was Shirley Goodman's (° 1936) turn and The voice of British singer/songwriter Nick Drake made his debut in 1948.
