still falls the rain

Chart positions

This show was 1st in the global chill chart, 2nd in the global ambient chart, 2nd in the global electronic chart and 3rd in the global chillout chart.

Back in 2009 I did a guest mix for Subversion called Still Falls the Rain.  When a regular listener/downloader was looking for a replacement file for one that he lost I realized that I'd never properly uploaded it to my own archive or to Mixcloud.

So I dug up the file from 2009, added a few more tracks and uploaded for your listening pleasure.

00:00 August Stars – Inland Rain
04:25 Part Timer – Rain on My Window
06:50 Letna – Raining Day
09:30 Jon Hassell – Delta Rain Dream
12:55 Manual - After the Rain
14:00 Mark McGuire – A Pocket Full of Rain
15:20 Sense - Early Rain
19:00 Cyber Zen Sound Engine & Matt Borghi – Endless Rain
22:10 Foxx & Budd – Raindust
27:55 Jeff Pearce – Rainshadow Sky
30:22 Giovanni Guidi Trio - The night it rained forever
37:40 experiments in silence - as gentle rain falls
47:56 Ryuichi Sakamoto - After the Rain

Another awesome mix, listened to this twice today!

It's always nice when you listen and comment on my older mixes because it makes me go back and listen to some of them and rediscover why they were so fun to create. Cheers!

Nice show. Here in Portland, OR for years we had a show on KINK radio called "Lights Out" which featured some ambient music played in the later evening. They would sometimes do "rain sets" where they would play such music to rain sounds, similar to this show.

Two other pieces that come to mind with this theme. One is Wendy Carlos' "Spring" from Sonic Seasonings which I think does an amazing job of capturing the feel of the season, utilizing, in part, a rainstorm. The second is a bit more esoteric, but Eberhard Schoener's Sky Music/Mountain Music to me is very reminiscent of rainfall and I have often listened to it in the rain (and played it over a rainstorm soundtrack back when I had a radio show in college).

I'm listening to the Schoener track as I type this and you're right it would work very well with rain sounds. Thanks for the heads up! I've used Wendy Carlos tracks from that album before but I don't think I've used Spring. Another one to keep in mind for the next rain mix. Cheers!

Its a rainy day in London (rare as that is) and searched "rain" to find this perfect melancholic, subliminal mix to elicit a moody feeling space to explore the depths. 🌨🙏

I'm glad you found the mix! Thanks for listening. Cheers!

Living up in the Catskills Mts and really getting into the atmosphere of your mixes. Though it seems that half the remixes I get into become unavailable in the U.S. after a few hearings!

I checked into the issue of mixes becoming unavailable and found this from Mixcloud:

US Rules:

- Maximum 3 tracks from an album (and max 2 consecutively)

Slightly dizzying effect, like being on the edge of a hill somewhere. Really nice. Now - trying to get new headphones on the job. I am sure my pc has Bluetooth, somewhere. Ah well, need to listen on ipad. Thanks for the links.

Love the sound of rain, this is a GREAT mix, but the sound of wind in trees even more - anything of that nature in your mixes?

low light mixes

I'm glad you enjoyed this mix! I have a few field recording type of mixes that may have some wind in the trees mixed in there somewhere but they also have a ton of other field recording sounds from trains to markets to machines to waves. Here are links to a few of them...
