songs for staying in

songs for staying in

I started collecting tunes for this mix after I heard Alva Noto's "Argonaut Version" in a Quiet Sounds mix. I like that song & wanted it to find a home in a mix.

I stole the title for this mix from a song by The Tumbled Sea, which is next to last in the mix. It just sounded like a good title & it fit with the crappy weather we've been having here.

The mix ends with a sort syrupy tune from Anthony Phillips. It may be a bit too sweet but it's one of those tunes that I have always liked, goes back to college days. I don't know if I was hearing it for the first time now, whether I would like it as much. I'm sure a big part of the song's attraction is its nostalgic significance. Anthony Phillips is the original guitarist for Genesis and back in high school & college I was a HUGE Genesis fan. Actually, I still am, but that was how I came to Phillips' music back then. It was nice to sneak that track into a mix.

Tracklist is in comments.

I thought this was a particularly nice mix--more mellow, contemplative, a little more intimate . . .

On a separate, unrelated, note. I appreciated your comment about your sentimental connection to Anthony Phillips when objectively you might not think he's as strong a musician. I have some personal connections to music like that, too, where I still enjoy listening to it (for a bit) because of that even though my objective brain says "you know, this isn't particularly good". Kind of like comfort food!

Thanks for reminding me about this old mix. After your comments on Anthony Phillips I edited the description here to include my notes about him from the original blog post from 8 years ago. A lot of old prog rock is comfort food for me. Cheers!
