This show was 4th in the global rock 'n' roll chart, 6th in the global blues chart, 31st in the global r&b chart and 50th in the global soul chart.
Inspired by my recent trip to Chicago... A mix of Blues, Rhythm & Blues and Early Soul exclusively from Chicago record labels. Played from original vinyl 45s from my collection.
Featuring WIllie Dixon, Little Walter, John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Etta James, Harold Burrage, Jimmy McCracklin, Jimmy Rogers, Little Milton, Sonny Boy Williamson, Betty Everett, Jimmy Reed, Tommy Tucker, Otis Clay, Sugar Pie DeSanto and more.
From the great Chicago labels of the 50s and 60s such as: Chess, Checker, Argo, Cadet, Cobra, Vee Jay, M-Pac, One-derful, Constellation.
The mix is in chronological order from the mid-50s to the mid-60s and you can really see how the sounds change in the space of only 10 years or so, from electric blues with upright bass, through Rock n Roll, R&B, with addition of more horn sections and into doo-wop and eventually soul music.
Long live Chicago!
