From an Orphan to a Star. 26/2/17

Around 470BC, among the Jewish exiles in Babylon, who had been captured from Israel many years before, there lived a young girl. “She had neither father nor mother” and was taken in by her older cousin, Mordecai. Her name was Hadassah, after the Myrtle bushes that grew on the stony Judean hillsides, but Mordecai called her Esther: the star.
She was an orphan and she grew up in obscurity; a Jewish girl in the powerful, pagan Babylonian world. But God had a plan, not only for Esther but for all His people.
King Ahasuerus, whose Greek name was Xerxes, had mounted a huge military campaign against the Greek Empire and had been soundly defeated.
