I think it’s extremely important to document and record poetry and song so that other people can experience and enjoy them as well as learn from them. It’s important to preserve our culture, our literature and our music. John Cooper did just that back in the 1980’s with a project to bring poetry to life in song with the poetry of John Milligan, a passionate poet and miner from Dreghorn.
Back in the 1980’s John Cooper of Irvine met with a poet and miner called John Milligan from Dreghorn near Irvine and set about a project to capture the poetry and song of John Milligan.
The documented works are entitled Scotia, Rabbie’s Bonnie Jean, Rememberance and Enchanting Caledonia.
John Milligan had never had his poetry recorded before other than in his many books that he wrote in frequently. John Cooper took to task in bringing his poetry to life by creating arrangements for the pieces.
You are among the very first to hear these recordings after they were made in 1982.
