Ever since Christ’s church began on the Day of Pentecost, His followers have gathered together on the first day of the week to praise and thank God for loving them and rescuing them from His wrath against sin through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son Jesus. This new Testament gathering or assembly of God’s rescued people was patterned after the worship gatherings of God’s people in the Old Testament beginning at Mt. Sinai and later in the Tabernacle and the Temple, which both served as God’s dwelling place and the place of worship for the people of Israel. Above all else, we come to church to worship God, and the must always be our main priority when we gather together.
