On August 7, 1970, 17yr old Jonathan Jackson, gained control of a courtroom in Marin County, CA arming the black defendants + took Judge Harold Haley, the prosecutor, + three female jurors as hostages. Police began shooting at the vehicle killing the judge, a juror, the prosecutor, + (3) black men. Since Davis had purchased the firearms used in the attack, CA considered “all persons concerned in the commission of a crime, whether they directly commit the act constituting the offense… principals in any crime so committed,” Angela Davis was charged with “aggravated kidnapping + 1st degree murder.” On August 18, 1970, four days after the initial warrant was issued, the FBI director J. Edgar Hoover made Angela Davis the 3rd woman + the 309th person to appear on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitive List. On October 13, 1970, FBI agents found her at the Howard Johnson Motor Lodge in New York City. President Nixon congratulated the FBI on its “capture of the dangerous terrorist Angela Davis."
