Fresno Poet Mai Der Vang Explores Hmong Roots in ‘Afterland’

Most Americans know nothing of the United State's so-called “Secret War” in Laos that left one tenth of the country's population dead by the time it ended in 1973. In her debut poetry collection, "Afterland," Mai Der Vang conveys the trauma of that conflict, kept alive through the memories of her parents who immigrated to the U.S. in the early 80s. Vang joins us in studio to speak to her work, the immigrant's longing for home and what her parents taught her about endurance.
