Do you find the notion of death disquieting? Terrifying? Some social psychologists posit that the human fear of death and the innate desire to avoid this ultimate fate is at the root of some of our most complex feelings and the impetus behind many of our lifelong endeavors. To be comfortable with death, however, we must understand what it really is. And any discussion about death needs to begin with a discussion about the nature of life.
