Something happened in the middle of the 90's as technology progressed - electronic music became too "polished". Kicks (even distorted) started sounding clear, samples were high-bitrate, and the bpms leveled-out so that even the hardcore kids could dance to it - evolving eventually into today's dreaded jumpstyle. Anyway. Rewind to almost 20 years ago when all that was needed was a sequencer and purposely badly-ripped samples. When I used to go to raves, Rotterdam and machine-gun speedcore were normal on the main stage. So for those who haven't had the pleasure of experiencing this sound yet, here is my tribute to the raw sound that inspired me when jungle still didn't yet have the power of DNB that it has now.
