In 1991 retro futurist acts such as Stereolab and Saint Etienne mixed New Wave and Pop. In the aftermath of grunge, the British music press launched a campaign to promote the Nu Wave. This campaign involved overtly punk and New Wave influenced acts such as Elastica and Smash.
During the 2000s a number of acts emerged that mined from a diversity of New Wave and post-punk influences. Among these were Yeah Yeah Yeahs, She Wants Revenge, Kaiser Chiefs and The Killers. By 2004 acts were described as "hot" such as The Sounds, The Ting Tings, The Birthday Massacre.
