Alex Chilton rose to number 1 with The Box Tops in the late 60's when he was just 16. In true rock dog form he was the self destructive archetype, phenomenally gifted, morbidly curious and always out of luck. The Boxtops disbanded after being financially mauled by music executives and he drifted from failed band to failed band. Leaving in his wake a huge back catalogue of forward thinking, uniquely original alternative pop songs for people to discover years after the fact. He was the quiet master of the indie rock domain and quite possibly the most underappreciated musician in modern rock history.
