I love great soul-and-jazz-infused hip hop, and it breaks my heart when I hear the terrible pop-rap that's been coming out since the rise of P Diddy in the late 1990s. It's really taken over what was a beautiful artform, and thankfully there are still some cats out there doing it right.
Here are some tunes I love, spanning the golden era of mid-1990s hip hop and more recent goodies and discoveries, including a fair bit of excellent Korean hip hop (which is also few and far between). Mixed in one nonstop session and then split into two parts. Hope you enjoy some classics as well as a few new discoveries! Let me know what you think :)
