The late and definitely great Tony Joe White, swamp-rock-soul singer and funky blues guitarist, who is probably best known for writing hits for Presley such as Polk Salad Annie, and for Brook Benton, such as Rainy Night in Georgia, but who himself recorded many albums of similarly magnificent material. I discovered his music from the start circa 1970 and tracked him down - I became an interviewer purely to meet my music heroes such as White - to talk with a quarter-century later. This interview is copyright Joe Jackson and must not be used without my permission in writing
