From the 52-hour series, I did about the greatest music acts of the 20th century. It was called People Get Ready.
Over a five-night period, People Get Ready profiled Elvis, Lennon, Dylan and Sinatra, with a lot of detailed and persuasive research. Normally indifferent listeners, staying with me over Christmas, were held by the sheer enthusiasm and obvious work rate of presented Joe Jackson. This has been one of the greatest music series ever mounted by RTE Radio. How many singers have been profiled? How many days, weeks, months, years of reading and experience goes into a series like this? How much subconscious material comes into the head of the presenter during the making of the series. That’s what you are getting here…RTE who are fond of repeats, should repeat this series again and again, for sheer musical education and enjoyment.’
