Radio Beats 'N' Pieces - Mark Goodier, Mix at 6:30pm - Recorded Live on BBC Radio 1, 14 July 1995

Playing tracks by

Dana Dawson, Shiva, Felix, Jinny, Corona and more.

90s nostalgia alert – this is what Radio 1 sounded like on Friday 14 July 1995 at 6:30pm. Mark Goodier ‘in the mix’, just before Pete Tong’s show. Mark suffered a stroke in November 2016 but has recovered well. The station celebrates its 50th birthday in September this year.

A bit of a cheese-fest in places here (Corona anyone?), but great memories of that time for me nonetheless.

On a more poignant note, two of the vocalists on these records are sadly no longer with us. Lead singer of Shiva, Louise Dean was tragically killed in a hit and run accident a few weeks before this was broadcast, on 18 June 1995 aged 24. ‘Freedom’ reached no. 18 in the UK in August 1995.

The American actress and singer Dana Dawson passed away on 10 August 2010 at the age of 36 after a ten month battle with cancer. ‘3 is Family’ reached no. 9 in the UK in July 1995.

Two great talents that were taken far too early. This is dedicated to their memory and to anyone who was a teenager in the 90s.

Loved these mixes myself Triquatra, I've a few recordings on cassette only though. Recently got a new cassette player to transfer from cassette

Back 2 The 90s

This is great, thanks!

Ahh, a pity! Hopefully some will surface eventually! I wonder if Mark actually did the mixes himself, or whether they were done by the guys at Wise Buddah and sent over. I note that he was one of the chaps compiling the 90s 'In The Mix' series, whilst the Wise Buddah engineers were mixing them, some of the song selections and mixes were very similar!

Fantastic! I loved these mixes on Marks show. I don't suppose you have any more do you? I've specifically been looking for any of the Mix at six (30)s that were air in Jan/Feb of 1996!
Cheers! :)

Thanks for the share :) I did used have some other recordings from around that time but sadly, it looks like this is the only one that has survived...
