Last October we visited Mexico City, and as always I was taken by the City's musical pulse. It's dubby, funky, deep but tuneful, the best of New York, Berlin, London and San Francisco but very much belonging to Mexico. Walking around the City you might hear deep house, The Smiths, cumbia, post-disco, The Clash ... and it all makes sense. Incredibly hip but never self-conscious, and always welcoming.
We visited Diego Ibañez (Sonido Desconocido II) and his girlfriend Gabrielle and they introduced us to their project Luci Fuerza, and loaded us down with demo MP3s from that project and SD II. I've been meaning to make a mix around these tracks since -- it's perfect Mexico City music. Check out Luci Fuerza and SD II, and, ideally, get yourself to Mexico City to take it in.
The rest of the tracks are brand new -- all released on March 10th or 11th of 2011 and bought in a single shot. Which is surely proof of how much great electronic music is still being made and released every day...
