Despite seeing the mayhem in the city of Jerusalem, Jeremiah remembers God’s faithfulness and promises as he cries out, “Restore us, O Lord, and bring us back to You again. Give us back the joys we once had” (Lamentations 5:21). We know that God delights in redeeming and restoring His people by His amazing grace but we also know people who have willfully drifted away from God. Peter, infamous for his denial of Jesus on the night he was betrayed and arrested, illustrates why all of us have the capacity to diminish our faith and trust in Jesus. What is the cause and cure for decline? Let’s consider God’s restoring grace.
