Dark Breakfast is not just a series of six mixes, nor is it just intended to be consumed or listened to at breakfast, but it is more an exploration, an appreciation of atmospheric music that resides towards the darker edge of the spectrum. Maybe its natural home is not inside Mixcloud but a howling, empty, run-down house in the late Winter afternoon, an alternative breakfast show, hosted by Trent Reznor, had he inhabited the life and soul of Noel Edmonds. Seated at this breakfast table, are the ghosts of the past, and the tormented, where the only temptation is the desire to run away from oneself. This is not a Gothic or indeed a spiritual show. In many ways the music is here to fill the empty space (obscuring the nightmares), albeit with a bias towards a bleaker mood. In this digital existence breakfast time is any time but with the lights off. Where the food is always served cold.
