We love talking to people who are compelled to create art... who create something out of nothing. So, of course, we loved talking with our guests in this episode, artists Zack Soto and François Vigneault. For years, these gentlemen created all types of comics: mini-comics, small press comics, webcomics and everything in between, several of them under the banner of Study Group Comics. But not only do they create comics and art, they create events.
Zack and François are the co-founders of Linework NW, a new illustration and comics festival debuting Saturday, April 12, from 2:00pm–9:00pm at the Norse Hall in NE Portland. Attendance is free and open to the public. We talked with Zack and François about how comics like X-Men influenced their art and storytelling early on, what inspired them to create their comics (such as Zack's superhero/sci-fi/pulp series The Secret Voice and François' space-based drama Titan) and why there can never be enough comic festivals.
