‘Small’ business is just a state of mind, especially when you have big talent. Take artists Mari Navarro and Leda Zawacki, co-owners and curators of the Portland art gallery Gallery Mini, for example. Gallery Mini was a venue that celebrated the enormous talent and energy of local artists (including their own work) within a tiny SE Portland artspace.
Mari and Leda joined us to talk about Mari’s outlaw existence as a graffiti artist on the streets of Chicago, the influence of history, science, myth and anime on Leda’s art and the pros and cons of art school, which can be difficult, especially when your instructors are stealing your ideas.
At this writing, Gallery Mini is taking a break, with plans to re-launch in a bigger, better way in the spring of 2014.
