Punk Rock was (meant to be) almost Cultural Revolution-like in denouncing all previous music styles - In fact what initially attracted Johnny Rotten to Malcom McLaren was a vandalised Pink Floyd Tshirt (by adding 'I hate' to the beginning), although some bands adhered to this more than others. Another idea that came about was the DIY ethic and bands did stick to this - there was almost a competition to see which band could function and record and produce records on the lowest budget which resulted in a lot of short-lived punk bands; it was something that everyone wanted, and due to the shift in ideas concerning production, could be a part of.

To my mind Punk is all about rebellion, expression, individualism and generally fast-paced and top quality music so plug in and enjoy the show.
