big year. fell in love, spent months in addis. sonar, burning man. got attacked by a large cat. made this mix from tracks off my favorite records. nothing much on the dancefloor side (i've those on other mixes), save the last cut (my fave). most of the albums that these are from are worth listening to, though the art of the LP is at great threat in this warpspeeddigitalbitehypeshufflemachine age of ascent. i had less insight into what 2013 was all about, musically, culturally, politically than any year before it. it all seems to be shifting simultaneously at the speed of light, and saying anything with certainty seems slippier than every before. except this: hiphop sucks worse than any time before this, and that hurts my heart. pop's almost killed rock'n'roll and punk's the new thing that will never die, nashville never went anywhere (two new country bars in toronto?), and kids be making some way out beautified future shit in their bedrooms that we'll be listening to in space.
