Solid Soul Sensations - Ian Levine's Sixty Ninth Northern Soul Podcast

Playing tracks by

It’s now November 2018. The weather is becoming chilly. I had to record this podcast a week early because I am spending the last week of October in Latvia, for a huge family event, so in order to have this spectacular podcast ready for the 1st of November, I need to upload it in advance. On November 9th I am doing a fantastic rarities spot at Teddington for Les Csonge and Ann Taylor. The one last February, was the best night DJing of my entire life. This one is surely unmissable. Some stunning rarities for you this month, like June Monday, Albert Jones, Jerry and the J’s, The Passionetts, and Ronnie Bishop, which I have finally remembered, starts off like the Isley Brothers “My Love Is Your Love”, after trying to remember what it sounded like, for night after night. Along with Paul Stuart Davis’ quite exceptional new single Baby It’s Yours, with the Fantastic Four on backing vocals, just to bring you a little joy into your life - so in the meantime keep on dancing with Ian Levine.

Thanks for the shout-out! I really appreciate it! As usual, you astounded me with too many incredible records to mention. I loved Albert Jones, Fabulous Holidays, O'Jays, Spartans, Orthea Barnes, Del Davis, Harmonics, Barons of Soul, Positive Change, Carpets (Kansas City vocal group!), Fabulous Apollos, Donn Thomas! As for Stella & the Gazelles, their recording wasn't released until 2000, but it was the original, recorded in 1967. Then Stella shot herself while playing with a gun and the group fell apart. Later they recorded Juanita Stewart of the Foxettes (Don El) over Stella's vocal, but kept the Gazelles backing vocals and released it as by the Passionettes on Soulburst in 1969. Info from David L. Brown of Philly Archives.

You thoroughly deserve the shout out. When I make a new podcast, I always have you in mind. Your knowledge on the Passionettes is FABULOUS.
