I had the privilege of flying out to the Far East last September for gigs in Tokyo and Shanghai. I didn't manage to record anything that time, so made sure i got at least one of my sets down when i went back at the start of June.
Elevator is a wee club in Shanghai (about 250 cap.), run by a lovely guy from San Francisco, called Sam Maurey, who managed the stage at the ace Concrete & Grass festival (where I played last Autumn). The Slowmance night is run by Allan Marshall, a DJ and designer from Sydney (also part of the esteemed Yeti Out crew). Sam likes to book under-the-radar acts, he and Allan both have great taste and the club's got a v low-key, industrial vibe.
I was only meant to be on 1-3am but ended up playing til 4am and then went back to back with Allan and Sam (DJ Mau Mau) until the club closed (~6am). Great night!
The crowd was about 50/50 young Chinese and expats, who partied hard. Lotta classics! Mostly vinyl...
