“Is there a disco near here?”
A question always worth asking. The prospect of meeting someone, of hearing something new and of course dancing. Sitting in continental disco's in the mid-eighties listening to mysterious maxi 12” singles (of unknown origin). Late 70’s and 80’s music designed without agenda. Music drawn from all corners of Europe and the US infused with a naivety today's calculated pop rarely delivers. Some of it threatens Eurovision cheesiness; some of it is electronic genius; much of it is bitter-sweet (like all the best pop music). All of it is delivered with conviction and aplomb – sweeping the listener away from humdrum towards the dance floor. These were people often exploring the boundaries of the time: be it classic seventies workouts or eighties high-energy Italo-disco. This compilation is a love-letter to them. Retro dance music to make you smile.
