1. Read John 15:1-12
2. Memorize John 15:1-2 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful" (NIV).
3. Examine your attitude towards God in hardship. Are you resentful? Are you resignedly defeated? Impatient? Drowning in self-pity? Or are you looking for what you can learn from a loving Father and trusting that He knows best?
I'll be honest, studying for this series on the discipline of God has left me a little nervous, but hopeful at the same time. Nobody enjoys hardship or discipline. The appropriate attitude for the follower of Christ is to trust God and learn from His discipline. The fact that God sent His son to the cross for you proves that there is nothing God will not do for you that is for your own good. He is trustworthy.
