Playing tracks by
Booker T & The MG's, The Shadows, Duane Eddy, The Saints, The Rolling Stones and more.
This show was 7th in the global rock 'n' roll chart, 7th in the global retro chart, 8th in the global northern soul chart, 8th in the global oldies chart and 9th in the global blues chart.
I asked David and Franic of The Wave Pictures for a mix of songs that they've played in their guest DJ sets at HDIF over the years, and they quickly turned in this barn-storming, foot-stomping set of rock'n'roll, rhythm'n'blues, northern soul, garage punk, 70s soul, and loads more. From Ike And Tina Turner and Jerry Lee Lewis to Benny Spellman and The Downliners Sect, via Ann Peebles, The Saints and The Shadows, this mix aims straight for the hips and doesn't let up for a second. Turn it up loud and get on the good foot!
The Wave Pictures DJ at How Does It Feel To Be Loved? at The Phoenix, 37 Cavendish Square, London W1, on Saturday June 18th. We'll also be warming up for Belle & Sebastian's Albert Hall shows next week by playing all of "Tigermilk" over the course of the evening, and maybe some songs from "Sinister" too.
