This Beautiful Mess - Mixtape 4

This Beautiful Mess - Mixtape 4

Time for another laid back vinyl session, ear candy going from ambient techno to jazz or chanson to psychedelic rock spicing it all up with a soundtrack now and then in a beautiful mess. Hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed compiling it, for the love of music, for the love of vinyl!

Havoc (Ruffskool)

1. Boards Of Canada - White Cyclosa
Taken from their darkest en moodiest album that was clearly inspired by film soundtracks, this one is heavy on atmosphere
2. Autechre - Autriche
Beautiful, experimental, ahead of it’s time, life changing, first released in 1993.
3. Portico Quartet - Laker Boo
A fusion of electronic beats, smooth jazz and ambient, this is very atmospheric and might let you even move.
4. Melanie De Biasio - The Flow (Hex remix)
The velvet voice of Biasio remixed by a Japanese band and perfect.
5. Bonobo - Pick Up (Four Tet mix)
Four Tet’s list of collaborations with artists is endless, he even opened for Radiohead on their European tour once.
6. Placebo - Balek
Don’t mess up with the alternative rock band, Moulin was one of Belgium’s finest jazz legends and leader of this band Placebo.
7. Biosphere - Cloudwalker
Spaceships landed in 1991 and they produced a certain sound sounding like this.
8. Jacques Brel - Ces gens-là
Belgian singer Brel born in Brussels sings about the despair of a hopeless love. Those people mister… don’t think!
9. Go March - The White Lodge
From the Belgian underground scene, sludgy post rock with modular electronics and krautrock.
10. Skalpel - Sculpture
Dramatic but melodic, dusty and Polish, out on Ninja Tune.
11. Xploding Plastix - Single Stroke Ruffs
Nu jazz but a very different approach, with samples and electronics in the vain of the well known Cinematic Orchestra.
12. Domotic - Cyclatron
Music for a world where humans and robots live together in harmony. "Cyclatron" dances to a lighthearted melody of vibraphones.
13. The Centurians - Bullwinkle Part II (Zed’s dead baby)
All about Zed’s motorcycle, I bet you wonder who Zed is?
14. Nordmann - Alarm!
Cutting edge avant-garde jazz mixed with rock, this is a killer.
15. Les Baxter - Hot Wind
Soundtrack from the flick Hell’s Belles - a biker chick movie and cult classic so is this album.
16. Condor Gruppe - Jungle Ships
Belgian band creating music for spaghetti westerns, no really, this is very unique.
17. Ambient Jazz Ensemble - Vibration
At the heart of every track is a jazz ensemble, but the music owes much to electronica, Vibration is one of them.
18. Aphex Twin - Kesson Daslef
An entirely piano track from the album Drukqs shows how talented Richard D James is.
19. Yann Tiersen - Comptine d’un autre été après midi
Better known as the soundtrack of Amélie.
20. Jenny Lee - Blind
This is how dismantled blues sounds like.
21.The Dining Rooms - Sergio Leone Asteroid
A soundtrack of cosmic funk, abstract jazz and cinematic avant-garde, their best album if you ask me.
