Sonny Landreth's first instrument was a trumpet and Miles Davis and John Coltrane were early heroes. After a few years he acquired his first six-string and developed his interest in slide guitar.
Now influenced by B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix he recorded a solo album in 1981 called 'Blues Attack'. Four years later his influential 'Congo Square' appeared on 'Down In Louisiana'. He would reprise this tune when a member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers in 1990.
Landreth has continued to stretch his musical boundaries culminating in the release, in June 2015, of his album 'Bound By The Blues' on Provogue Records.
In this hour special, Pete Feenstra chats to Sonny about his career with tracks from the new album.
