We pay tribute to the wonderful music of Terry Callier.
Terry Callier was an American jazz, soul and folk guitarist and singer-songwriter from Chicago, who counted Curtis Mayfield, Major Lance and Jerry Butler as childhood friends.
He performed, recorded and toured through the 70s, retiring in 1983. His re-emergence from obscurity came in the late 80s, when British DJs discovered his old recordings and began to play his songs in clubs. Eddie Piller reissued a little-known Callier recording from 1983, "I Don't Want to See Myself (Without You)", and brought him to play clubs in Britain. From '91 he returned to the scene, signing with acid jazz label Talkin' Loud, and later Mr. Bongo. Collaborations include Massive Attack, Paul Weller, Beth Orton and more.
Those I know that met and spent time with Terry describe him as a generous, warm, wonderful human being. Sadly, he passed away 27 October 2012.
Thanks for the music TC.
