Following His passionate upheaval of the commercial activities that had taken over the Court of the Gentiles, Jesus is confronted by those whose interests He has stepped on. The religious leaders of that day set about to trap Jesus in three areas: personal (11:27-12:12), political (12:13-17), and theological (12:18-27). But Jesus' opponents have once again severely underestimated the King of Heaven. Using divine wisdom and the Scriptures, Jesus not only disarms the traps set for Him but also brings the discussion pointedly to greater spiritual concerns. And the points Jesus makes are as important for us today as they were back in their original setting.
