Filmmakers Christopher Everett and Jesse Kale joined me to talk about Chris' documentary Wilmington on Fire, which is being screened in Kenan Auditorium on January 21st at 7:30 pm.
The Wilmington Massacre of 1898, one of the only coups d'état in America that was left unchecked, is the subject of Wilmington on Fire, so we talk at length about the event itself as well as Chris and Jesse's backgrounds. The story is a horrifying look at race relations during the turn of the century, with the atrocities compounded by the event's limited coverage and impact on local history. We managed to keep it lighthearted along the way though and ended up with a really fun, well-rounded conversation.
Chris and Jesse are both great guys who are pursuing their passion and I'm excited to see their work pay off with continued screenings of Wilmington on Fire, which will be playing in Charlotte, New York, and elsewhere around the country during 2016.
