During the last 11 years some brilliant soul, blues and jazz music has been created; not just by older artists, but by new emerging artists - allowing these genres to evolve. Yet, the last 11 years have seen many artists leave us: Luther Vandross, Teddy Pendergrass, Ali Woodson (Temptations) Levi Stubbs & Obie Benson (4Tops) and Solomon Burke to name a few. Here I've mainly focused on new recordings by older artists. The Temptations' best song of the century "Soul Music from 2010's "Still Here"; Luther Vandross' excellent "Take Me Out" from 2001's self-titled album; and Wilson Pickett's "Soul Survivor", one of his last recordings. Indeed featured here are new(er) artists: Gregory Porter and "Illusion" from his awesome, Grammy-nominated debut album "Water"; and The Bo-Keys, a mix of Memphis musicians old & young join the underrated Otis Clay for the title track of their fine album. Please listen, and enjoy.
