Blackpool mecca 1973

Playing tracks by

Blackpool mecca 1973.

Hear a Saturday night session at the renown Highland rooms, A long list of great records echoe round the mecca. Many where later big records at Wigan casino. But it was yet to open when this was recorded. Colin Curtis is the dj for a big part of it. The Torch had recently closed it's doors for the last time. If you where 1 of the prats who wore a Tshirt proclaiming Ian Levine to be a div. Quite a few at Wigan casino and the Ritz in the mid 70's. Listen to it and think I was the asshole not him.

Have to agree with Ian there... speed is way off on this recording, having been to both the Ritz and the Mecca, this is disappointing to say the least, sounds like it was recorded on some old dansette... ;o(

It is disappointing you you waited to add your comment. Until after Ian as made his. It was recorded on a Pye cassette recorder like everything else was at the time. They where uploaded as received with the details supplied to me. If people are good enough to give it to me. I share it to others all free, then people start moaning. Why bother to add them free, I took your comment as for a more pay to listen remark. A bit uncalled for on a free site. But still very valid Malli, even thou this was posted quite some time ago. I have not received comment's to point this out to me. If people had posted like you, it makes me aware of faults. So I would still like to thank you for your input

Hello Sam, I had only just listened to the 'post' on that day I commented. I am not influenced by what Ian Levine had said really. I have been following soul music for approx 48 years, from Northern and across the board so am quite able to conclude my own viewpoint, but had to agree. I love the 'Mecca' sound as it is was and is known, and was fortunate to go a number of times over the years. Colin Curtis is one of my favourite DJ's right through the early Mecca years to the Ritz all dayer's and onto Berlins (Jazz) and other periods since. I understand full well that recording on a Pye Cassette recorder would give anyone problems and the sound quality would be affected for sure. It was not so much the sound quality, but the speed at which the records and the commentary was made, which was pretty poor. I was very keen to hear the post as usually Wigan takes the plaudits for Northern, but was disappointed, so naturally felt I had to comment. It was not a 'moan'. What was baffling me was that previously there were positive comments, so I wondered what had they listened too and was my PC playing up. I understand your need to want to share music posts, I would do the same. I am sorry If I said the wrong thing, but if people don't speak up, then you would be of the belief that everything regarding the post was ok, which sadly for me as a listener, albeit non-paying, it isn't.

I'm not 100% convinced this is The Mecca. i think it's the Ritz from 1975. Just the way the records are played sounds like The Ritz not The Highland Room.

Considering The Exciters was recorded in February 1975, there is no way on this planet this is from 1973. It's more likely to be around June 1975.

Why is it running so fast, like Mickey Mouse meets Pinky and perky. What a damn shame. WHAT A DAMN SHAME.

hi Ian I did not record it. The information was given to me with the CD. I'm not in the position your in to inquire the year needs to be verified. I have no idea why it plays so fast, as it plays normal on my system. Again it as no tempo changes to the CD given to me. Did you listen to the other recording of you? I was given just Tiffanies as location details
