Who Owns the Name CARIBANA? Should We Go back to That Name - Grapevine - Sunday January 24 2016by G987FM

How could search for solution if you don't know the problem? That's what should be listed first and on the other side you search for the solutions of those problems. I am at the beginning of this recording and I can predict that you will not have a solution at the end of the session. It’s not the name that these people should be asking for: The festival is what they should be seeking to regain. The name doesn’t mean a thing these days because people who are interested; know the date of the festival. True the name Caribana is known worldwide (see http://www.caribana.ca) somewhere on that page it show hits from more than 100 countries. China has surpassed the US with hits. So the name is worth millions to business but does nothing for the community. That’s where the problem begins. The festival must be returned to the community and that’s where the problem begins. Belasco stated it right when he said the various Caribbean organizations were responsible for the first and other festival. The festival grew from several thousands to several hundred thousand.
The name Caribana was stolen from Caribana Arts Group by FMC at the end of 2006 when is was to return to CAG. They went and made their own and refuse to talk to us until now. What they want is the name not CAG and the Commimity. Let us all get it together for the community. "Caribanais not a single Story."
Most definitely. Caribana is more than just a festival. Most importantly Caribana remains a community striving for community cohesiveness and should be given the opportunity to prove itself once more.
