Simon Emmerson’s ‘Weirdy Birdy’ Mix. Corncrake Studios, West Dorset. 11/10/10

A great mix from Simon Emmerson of The Imagined Village, an exclusive for Folk Radio UK:

In his own words:

This a strictly deep Dorset mix from the Lush record label and The Sound Approach bird-recording collective. The twilight call of Great Northern Divers or the dry song of a Yellowhammer encourages the listener to walk away from the maddening crowd and join Swifts, Swallows and Cranes returning home along coastal paths, past childhood oaks and dream time Sky Larks. The mix rows you out from the smugglers village of Moon fleet and Chesil Beech as you drift west pass Start Point and Slapton Sands until you let go reaching out to cross oceans and time lines.

broadcast today, 1/6/11 Radio 2 19:00
Mike Harding presents an hour of the best in folk, roots and acoustic music, including an interview with musician and producer Simon Emmerson.
Simon is known to many as the founder of Afro Celt Sound System and The Imagined Village. In his latest project, Fresh Handmade Sound, he's been commissioned to create four soundtracks to treatments in a chain of English health spas.
The soundtracks consist of traditional music laced with birdsong and other sounds recorded in the English countryside. The music is performed by specially-formed bands Walking with Ghosts and The Petrels, which feature some of the leading lights in English folk music including Jackie Oates, Belinda O'Hooley and Eliza Carthy. Due to licensing issues in your country it is not possible to seek backwards. Why is this?
