Reacting to Trauma & Stress: Reliving the 1988 Aloha Airlines Disaster

Host: Larry Kaskel, MD

Guest: Capt. Mimi Tompkins

On April 28, 1988, an Aloha Airlines jetliner succumbed to an explosive decompression reaction during its climb to cruising altitude. The aircraft lost a 20-foot section of its upper forward fuselage. A senior flight attendant was swept to her death, even as First Officer Mimi Thompson worked to bring the severely crippled airplane to a miraculous safe landing. What happened physically, mentally and emotionally to Mimi’s well-being that day and in the days to follow? We find out first hand, as Ms. Thompson speaks with host Dr. Larry Kaskel.
