It’s time to look back on 2016. There’s only one thing I turn to help dial up the ups and work around the downs, so my last mixtapes of the year have been a welcome indulgence into something I know will keep my feet on the ground and my head in the clouds.
As always there’s been so much to listen, so much to love. So it’s only right that December sees not one but two mixtapes come your way, compiled to reflect the two sides of Christmas.
This second one is the punchier of the two, for a few too many sherries, a disco bauble, or just dropping your hip after a hell of a year. Each track is pulled from one of my favourite albums of the year, those records that have stood out amidst the deluge of music that passes between my ears every day and – in this instance – caused a snap of the neck, or a skip in my otherwise weary step. It’s not all good cheer, there’s some sharp edges, but Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a breaking a tooth on the penny in the pudding.
