Erasing Boundaries has featured several Chicago artists who are playing active roles in one of the country’s most exciting new music scenes. Nico Segal, Thelonious Martin, and Kami de Chukwu are only three of the numerous distinct voices that are crafting high-quality hip-hop in the Windy City, and the rest of the U.S. is starting to take notice. Nobody has been more instrumental in this growth than Alex Fruchter, founder of the website Rubyhornet.com and, more recently, the owner and director of independent label Closed Sessions.
Alex talks with Erasing Boundaries about how he has seized opportunities based upon his vision, what it means to share a slice of Chicago with the world, and the role that a label like Closed Sessions plays for a vibrant city. His musings are interspersed with a sampling of Closed Sessions releases, featuring Vic Mensa, Alex Wiley, Action Bronson, Curren$y, and more.
