Ireland has been found guilty of violating women’s rights regarding abortion. The European Court of Human Rights found that Ireland had violated an Irish woman’s right to privacy in the case of ABC vs Ireland last December.
An expert committee on abortion law in Ireland is being set up by the Government to consider the judgment.
Ireland has been in the legal wilderness regarding abortion since the Supreme Court handed down its decision in the ‘X’ case in 1992.
Currently 12 women a day travel from Ireland to access abortion abroad.
