It is the duty of every citizen to sacrifice their personal comforts for the good of his or her county in the time of National crisis. War rationing always happens when a country goes into major conflict, be it coffee or cheese or gasoline or rubber, if our boys overseas need it, we’re supposed to live without. So when we took up arms against those Nazi bastards, and the Fascists, and the Japs, our honorable government did its solemn duty and instituted the fashion police.
Wool was a necessary commodity in the manufacture of our boys uniforms, as well as necessary to clothe those who stayed home to keep the country working. Men at home needed suits, certainly, we weren’t barbarians for God’s sake, but what cut of suit, well that was something we could discuss. The Zoot Suit, once described by a your Malcolm X as having a “Drape Shape, and a Reet Pleat, and shoulders padded like a lunatic's cell” had a long jacket, and wide pant legs pegged to a cuff at the ankle.
