Sometimes a bit of simple pillage can lead to unexpected wonders. It began with a simple peasant farmer, Yorgos Kentrotas. He was digging out some marble building blocks from ruins outside his village of Tripiti. It’s not recorded if he intended them for a building project of his own, or he he intended to sell them for buy feed for his goats. Goats will notoriously eat most anything, maybe Yorgi intended to feed the marble blocks to them directly, as stated, the intention is not recorded. Having pried a large cap stone out of the ground, Yorgi found a niche, buried over a couple thousand years , that contained a remarkable find.
