This mix was heavily inspired by the UK-based Late Night Tales DJ series, and in particular the 2016 release of David Holmes' LNT contemplation on life, death and the afterlife. This is also the first time I've peppered a mix with field recordings: rain falling, children laughing, the lakefront waves, the steamboats along the Mississippi River. A water-bound journey through the wake of life, the currents of experience.
"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.
I am haunted by waters.” - Norman Maclean
"riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay, brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs." - Finnegan's Wake, James Joyce
